EXAMPLES OF WORK - POWYS
Waiting
My beady cat – like eyes,
Dart back and forth,
Never resting.
It must be careful,
Not to lose concentration.
I pick up my paw,
And gently manoeuvre it
Over the soil
My striped fur,
Disappears and reappears
AS the small tint of light
Catches it
Like a metal slinky
That moves swiftly but surely.
I begin to tear,
The back of a nearby tree
It’s no match for me
My canine teeth, rip it apart.
I am restless
I am waiting
I am waiting for you
Angharad James
Waiting
In the cool shade,
Of the trees,
Making the most
Of my last moments
Tension was agonising
The wait was killing me
A menacing voice
Rang through my head
‘I am waiting for you’,
It said
This was it
My time was up

A Little Nonsense
We all know
To do well in life
We need joy and happiness
And some knowledge and sincerity
A little nonsense
Does no harm
The wisest of people
Are only wise
Because they have
That knowledge and sincerity
And joy and happiness,
And so a little nonsense,
Does no harm
“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men”. Roald Dahl

See What I See
(After Marcel Proust)
You could look at a chair
For years
And never see what I see
You could look at a chair
And see a seat
Or look at it
And see a pirate ship
Open your mind
And keep it there
And then you’ll see what I see
The real act of discovery
Consists not in finding new lands
But in seeing with new eyes.
Bronnie Davies
Blow me Away
I am waiting for you
I will always be there
Stuck at the end
Of a gnarly branch,
Waiting for you
To blow me away.
First I was green.
Those were the days
When the sun would shine.
Then I turned red,
And all the trees
Around me,
Looked like they were
Splattered with blood.
And now I am brown,
And crisp
With a thin layer of ice,
Covering me
Waiting for you
To tear me away
To send me to the ground.
Emily Collins-Owen
Waiting!
As I angrily stood in the miserable, icy rain my wet hair tangled around my neck like an octopus seizing it’s distressed prey. My jeans clung to my body whilst my sandals – my sandals o, why did I chose these dratted shoes – stuck to the cobbled path like sticky chewing gum pressed against the stony pavement. All I could feel was the cold, daunting rain thudding down onto my shoulders.
After all these “years” my transport finally arrived; a dirty, old bus.

It’s Never Too Late
‘You know, we never did climb that tree’
Said he
‘Or ever toss a mud pie’
Said I
‘We never swam in the river’
His bottom lip began to quiver
‘We never played hide and seek’
I said my voice was weak
‘And we never ran around the yard’
He muttered face so hard
‘What did we do all our child life?’
I hasped at strife
‘We just played computer games,
Nearly forgot our own names’
‘Why don’t we just do it now?’
‘I’m not sure I remember how’.
